It’s back! Finally, it’s back! Time for the Great British Bake Off 2016!

It’s been a long time coming, and finally the Great British Bake Off is back. If you haven’t seen it before, you need to get on that. Seriously, it’s a must.

So, now that we’re through Episode One, and we’ve met the contestants. Who’s picked a favourite? Once again, we’re over run with quirky contestants. Personally, I’m backing Selasi as the favourite, though who knows if that laidback attitude is gonna fly in the later episodes!

For now though, let’s take a look at some of the best moments from Episode One of GBBO!

1. The Woman who listens to cake. Aka: The Cake Whisperer.

I’m not gonna lie. This was a beautiful moment in GBBO Ep.1. Her face says it all. Val claims that her cakes tell her when they’re cooked when she listens to them. I won’t lie, don’t be surprised if you catch me listening to a cake or two from now on!

Val also loves Ed Sheeran. We’ve got a mad one on our hands here!

2. The vast array of horrific looking ‘Mirror Glaze’ cakes.

We’ve all seen mirror glaze taking over the internet the last few weeks. They’re everywhere, and for good reason – they are stunning!

The contestants of GBBO were required to have a crack at this technical style of icing in Ep.1, and it was less than a success. Compared to the heavily practiced and perfected mirror glaze cakes all over the web, this lot were a very strange mixture of cakes. My personal favourite was this bright blue concoction – at least they tried!

Mary’s face says it all.

3. Selasi being cool as ice.

Selasi, this is the Great British Bake Off. How are you so relaxed??? I think we can all agree that Selasi is freakishly calm about the whole bake off situation. This is not a drill man! I repeat, this is not a drill!

Look at that face. I’m convinced the man just doesn’t feel stress. Throughout the entirety of episode one, Selasi breezes along without so much as a hint of panic. As the other contestants drop cakes, cry, and exist in a general sense of disarray, this man is like a rock. No messin’.

4. Mary Berry’s reaction to a Gin & Tonic Drizzle Cake.

The face says it all: when someone makes a cake version of your favourite tipple, it’s normal to get a little bit excited. Can we all just agree that Mary Berry is a hero?

5. Jane’s face when she won star baker.

This is why we do it. Jane’s face after being awarded Star Baker is just the sweetest thing to happen in episode one, and the pinnacle of examples as to why we all love GBBO!

Did you have any favourite funny moments, or have you picked your favourite contestant that you’re tipping for the Great British Bake Off winner 2016? It’s time to make your predictions! Do you, like me, think that Selasi was ROBBED of Star Baker (as nice as it was to see Jane so delighted)? Let me know your best bits from episode one, and follow Sauce Pots on twitter for fun Twitter chats next Wednesday during episode 2!

Until then, get baking your versions of the three bakes from episode one, and make sure to share your creations!
